Fibromyalgia Back Pain
No cause has been identified behind fibromyalgia back pain, which can be a frustrating and difficult symptom. Unfortunately no cure exists for fibromyalgia, and treatment consists of addressing the symptoms. If you have fibromyalgia back pain, there are a number of options that may just bring you the relief you’re hoping for:
Water Therapy
A number of research studies have shown that warm water therapy done daily for at least twenty minutes a day can provide significant pain relief. Results have shown that either bath tub soaking or water jet therapy will work, but you need to consistently do therapy daily to feel a difference.
Stretching Exercise
Gentle yoga and other stretching exercises may help you strengthen your back muscles and provide you with the necessary strength to help your back muscles from being fatigued. However, remember that even gentle stretches done incorrectly can cause more problems, so get started with a chiropractor, yoga instructor or physical therapist to make sure you’re working with your back, and not against it.
Watch What You’re Wearing
If you’ve ever been a fan of high heels, it’s time to let them go. Wearing supportive shoes can be tremendously helpful in preventing and correcting back pain. In addition, insoles that provide shock absorption and proper arch support can feel lifesaving and allow you to stay active.
Hot packs
Warm, moist heat is often helpful for fibromyalgia back pain and if sitting in a bathtub isn’t convenient, a hot pack may be just what the doctor ordered. There are a number of products available, including ones which can be heated in the microwave for a quick pain fix. Make sure you read the manufacturer’s instructions for any product you use to avoid getting a burn.
