Fibromyalgia Headaches
Fibroymyalgia is a chronic health condition with no known cause or cure, and most treatment focuses on treating the symptoms. One of those symptoms is fibromyalgia headaches, a common problem.
Prevention as medicine
As with many symptoms related to fibromyalgia, one of the best ways to deal with fibromyalgia headaches is to head them off before they take root. Headaches can be aggravated by stress, a lack of sleep and a poor diet. While everyone experiences stress – especially if you living with a chronic condition, you can control how you respond to stress. If you allow stressful situations to make you angry, upset and depressed, then you will be more vulnerable to physical symptoms. To the extent you are able, eat a healthy diet, exercise as tolerated, and make decisions that relieve stressful situations.
At Home Remedies
Magnesium supplements may be useful, as can serotonin. Of course, talk with your health care provider before adding any supplements.
Acupuncture, reiki and other alternative forms of treatment may also be helpful. Getting treatment for Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMJD has the potential to reduce fibromyalgia headaches as well.
Medication Help
Sometimes, over the counter acetominaphen, aspirin or ibuprofen may be enough to knock out the early stages of a headache. However, depending on your other medications and your health history, certain over the counter medications may not be safe for you. For example, if you have a history of liver problems, then a medication like Tylenol would not be the most appropriate choice for you. Talk to your pharmacist and your health care provider about which medications would be right for you.
If over the counter medications don’t do the trick, then you may need to go to your health care provider for prescription medications.
Seek Medical Attention
If you are experiencing what you would describe as “the worse headache of your life,” then call your health care provider. A severe headache may require testing or further evaluation to rule out any other health problems that may arise.
