Fibromyalgia’s Tender Points

Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects eighteen locations in the human body called tender points. These tender points are found in points, muscles and tendons. Those who suffer fibromyalgia have a continuous pain and tenderness in their tender points. The most common tender points affected by fibromyalgia are knees, elbows, hip joints and around the neck. The sign of fibromyalgia is when a patient has widespread pain for at least three months. There is no quick surgical treatment for fibromyalgia although it is often thought to be triggered by major surgery. If a patient undergoes surgery, the post operative period can be very painful. Many patients find alternative therapies like acupuncture helpful in relieving symptoms. Medicines are prescribed to relieve pain, stiffness and lack of sleep which add to the suffering of a fibromyalgia patient. For mild fibromyalgia, changes in lifestyle, diet and exercise routines do wonders for the patient.
