Can fibromyalgia cause swelling?

Most sources I have checked

Most sources I have checked indicate that swelling is not a common symptom of fibromyalgia. You did not indicate where on the body you are experiencing swelling.

In fibromyalgia, your joints may ache and you may feel stiff, especially upon arising. However, if you are experiencing swelling of the joints, this is not usually associated with fibromyalgia, and especially not if your joints are reddened and inflamed as well.

Fibromyalgia may cause paresthesias, tinglng or numbness in the hands or feet, but swelling at the same time is not usually associated with fibromyalgia.

Some medications used to treat fibromyalgia, such as Gabapentin, may cause swelling of the feet. If this is a bothersome symptom, you may want to discuss this symptom with your doctor.

Some people experience mild swelling of their hands and feet in hot weather, or when standing on their feet for long periods of time. This swelling usually subsides with elevation of the extremities and rest.

If you are experiencing swelling of your joints, accompanied by pain and stiffness, you might want to consider a referral to a rheumatologist if you have not already seen one. Fibromyalgia can often mimic other conditions such as arthritis. While fibromyalgia will not cause lasting damage to your joints, arthritis can.

I hope this helps to answer your question.
