I'm so sorry that you are
I'm so sorry that you are experiencing such pain. The pain of fibromyalgia can be overwhelming at times. Have you discussed treatment options with your physician?
There are three medications that have been approved by the FDA to treat fibromyalgia. Cymbalta is a selective norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor which is used to treat fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy (nerve pain). It also treats depression and anxiety, both of which may co-exist when there is chronic pain. Lyrica affects brain chemicals that transmit pain signals. It is used to treat nerve pain from diabetes and shingles, as well as fibromyalgia. The newest drug approved to treat fibromyalgia is Savella, which is also a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. These medications have all been shown to be effective in treating fibromyalgia patients and their pain.
Non-pharmacological methods of managing pain include massage, exercise (which may sound odd when you are expereincing pain, but can help to reduce muscle pain), stress relief, application of heat to sore muscles, and eating a healthy diet. There are more, but these are just a few to provide you with some ideas. Many people with fibromyalgia use a combination of many different therapies. However, if your pain is so severe that you cannot function, seeing a physician is a wise idea.
I hope this is of some help and you get some relief soon.
