More Quick Facts...

From what I have read, Metanx
From what I have read, Metanx is a drug used mainly to treat diabetic neuropathy. It is also used to treat diabetic ulcers of the lower extremities. In fibromyalgia. it may be used to relieve abnormal sensations such as pins and needles in the feet.
Metanx is thought to help blood vessels produce a substance called nitric oxide that helps blood vessels dilate, thus improving blood flow and reducing pain. Metanx is also thought to assist in improving nerve function, including building up of the myelin sheath that surrounds our nerves. The myelin sheath is what protects our nerve fibers.
If you are suffering from pins and needles or other abnormal sensations in the lower legs, or from restless legs syndrome (RLS), Metanx may help to relieve some of these symptoms.
If this is not the case for you, you may want to ask your neurologist why he/she wants you on this drug, and what he/she hopes to accomplish. The drug is a combination of various B vitamins, which are known to be important in nerve functioning.
