There is no substitute for a healthy diet, but we are not always perfect and sometimes, for whatever reason, we find it difficult to eat as well as we should. There is no special diet that has been recommended for fibromyalgia, but a well-balanced diet may help you to feel as well as you can in terms of your symptoms. Eating a poor diet will likely exacerbate any symptoms of fibromyalgia that you suffer from. Nutrients from food are always superior to those that come from a bottle. That being said, if you are unable to eat a healthy diet all the time (and few of us can) supplements can help you to augment what you may be missing from your diet.
Calcium and magnesium are crucial for the maintenance of bone health and muscle function. Vitamin B12 is important for a healthy nervous system. Vitamin B6 is needed to produce serotonin, which in turn triggers melatonin to aid sleep. Low levels of serotonin have been implicated in fibromyalgia. Lack of vitamin D has been implicated in depression and fatigue, as well as a host of other symptoms.
As you can see, there are many vitamins that play a crucial role in health maintenence. I have only listed a few here, because deficiencies in these vitamins may worsen fibromyalgia symptoms. As mentioned, the best sources of these vitamins are in the healthy foods you eat. If you feel you need a supplement, ask your doctor to recommend one. A dietician can be a great resource for determining your specific needs.
