Dementia and Fibromyalgia?

Hi Sully, I'm not sure what

Hi Sully,

I'm not sure what your question is. Are you asking if fibromyalgia can cause dementia? If so, the answer is no.

However, many people who suffer from fibromyalgia experience what is affectionately known as "fibro fog". This is a collection of cognitive symptoms that, in severe cases, might lead one to believe they are suffering from early Alzheimer's or dementia. Symptoms can include difficulty concentrating, short-term memory loss, difficulty finishing tasks, fatigue and other symptoms. If these symptoms are severe, they might be mistaken for another, more ominous, neurological condition.

For some, cognitive difficulties can spell the end of their working career, especially when fibro fog, severe fatige and pain are all added together. Fibro fog is yet another of the unpleasant effects of fibromyalgia that can be experienced to lesser or greater degrees.

Sometimes a neurologist is the first specialist consulted for fibromyalia when cognitive symptoms are severe and are impacting lifestyle and work. Many neurologists are familiar with fibromyalgia and the cognitive dysfunction that it can cause.

I hope this answered your question!

This is a good question as I

This is a good question as I often wonder if I have dementia as I forget things far too often, don't finish sentences, get muddles if having an in depth conversation, talk gobble dee gook sometimes (to the amusement of my friends lol), can't listen to more than one thing at a time (not so god when u got 4 kids lol)and my short term memory is shot lol.
